The Blinn College District invites pianists in grades 5-12 to apply for the 18th annual Young Pianist Competition to be held Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center on the Blinn-Brenham Campus.

Competition is limited to the first 30 applicants. Participants will be divided into four age divisions (grades 5-6, 7- 8, 9-10, 11-12) and finalists will perform two memorized pieces of music of different styles at 3 p.m. Awards and trophies will be given to the top finishers, and Blinn College music scholarships will be offered to deserving high school juniors and seniors interested in attending Blinn College.

Performances will take place in the O’Donnell Center with practice rooms available in the J. Hal and Allyne Machat Music Facility. Judges for this year’s competition will be Dr. Tali Morgulis of The University of Houston Moores School of Music, Dr. ILonka Rus of Sam Houston State University, and Dr. Kiyoshi Tamagawa of Southwestern University.

The 2020 competition is dedicated to the memory of the late Blinn College alumnus and trustee Dr. Henry Boehm. Boehm served on the Blinn Board of Trustees for 34 years, and he and his siblings donated the Bosendorfer grand piano and helped to make the Young Pianists Competition possible.
