The Virgil & Josephine Gordon Memorial Library, a cherished community institution, played host to a delightful and insightful gathering on the evening of May 18, 2023. From 4:45 to 6:30, the library buzzed with energy and camaraderie as attendees mingled, celebrated, and embraced the vital role that the library plays in the community. This memorable event, hosted by the library board, served as a bridge connecting generous donors of the past and the community members who benefit from their support.

The mixer exemplified the power of private funding in nurturing and sustaining the library’s mission. Unlike public libraries with larger budgets, the Virgil & Josephine Gordon Memorial Library relies on the generosity of philanthropic individuals and organizations to maintain its services. Every dollar raised through donations goes directly toward enhancing the library’s offerings and expanding its reach.

One of the highlights of the evening was the delectable spread prepared by the talented students of Seay High School Culinary Arts. From scrumptious hors d’oeuvres to mouthwatering desserts, the culinary creations delighted the taste buds of all in attendance. The collaboration between the library and Seay High School showcased the importance of nurturing young talent while fostering a sense of community.

The Virgil & Josephine Gordon Memorial Library Mixer was not only an opportunity to thank past donors for their invaluable support, but it also welcomed the public to witness the positive impact the library has on the community. It served as a reminder that libraries are not just repositories of books but vibrant spaces that foster intellectual growth, provide resources for learning, and cultivate a love for reading among all ages.

The event was adorned with a warm social media post from the library’s official accounts, expressing gratitude to everyone who attended. The post read, “Thank you all who attended our mixer yesterday evening! Your continued support of our library provides a great asset to our community. Special thanks to SHS Culinary Arts, Twisted Willow by Donna, and Cast Iron Winery for your contributions.”

The overwhelming success and warm reception of the mixer have inspired the library board to plan similar events every few months. These gatherings will serve as ongoing reminders of the library’s importance to the community and its need for sustained support. By fostering connections, spreading awareness, and inviting new individuals to experience the library’s offerings firsthand, these mixers will play an instrumental role in ensuring the library’s continued growth and ability to serve the community.
