The Austin County Office of Emergency Management has released an update for the freezing weather affecting the county.

A routine traffic stop in Columbus turned deadly yesterday when the subject fled initiating a high speed chase. The suspect crashed the vehicle which caught fire killing the suspect. The incident remains under investigation.

A 26-year-old, who was wanted for questioning about the death of his father, was caught in Austin County on Hwy 159 just over the Waller County Line.  The man is being charged with evading and could be facing more charges after an autopsy is performed on the body of his father.

The Austin County Republican Party hosted a candidate forum last night at Tony’s Family Restaurant. Candidates running will appear on the May 7, 2022 election ballot.  We have the complete video of the forum for you.

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for Austin and surrounding Counties.  Wind chill in the area will reach into the teens.
