HOUSTON, Texas – Blinn College baseball dropped a pair of games to No. 10 San Jacinto College-North by the score of 1-0 and 6-5 Saturday evening in Houston.
With the losses, the Buccaneers fall to 18-16 overall and 8-12 in the Region XIV South Zone standings. Blinn is currently on a four-game losing streak.
San Jacinto 1 – Blinn 0
Blinn was able to outhit San Jacinto 6 to 4 but it didn’t translate to any runs as San Jacinto took a 1-0 victory to open the doubleheader.
Nathan Alexander pitched a solid game by going six innings and giving up one earned run on four hits while striking out three in the losing effort.
The Buccaneers left nine runners on bases as the lack of run support hurt their chances for a victory. Angel De La Fuente and Trent Murphy each had a double in the loss. San Jacinto scored its lone run in the third inning.
San Jacinto 6 – Blinn 5
Blinn held a 5-2 lead in the second game after four innings but San Jacinto was able to come back and tie the game and force extra innings and eventually pull out the 6-5 victory over the Buccaneers to finish off the sweep.
Elijah MacNamee and Murphy each had two RBIs in the game. Jay Anderson had a pair of singles in the loss.
San Jacinto scored first with a single run in the second inning but Blinn fought back. Walker Winders started the third with a single and later came around to score on a passed ball to tie the game at 1-1. Murphy later brought in a pair with a double to left for a 3-1 edge. San Jacinto got one back in the bottom of the third to get within 3-2.
The Buccaneers kept the offense going in the fourth when George Pappas was hit by a pitch and Anderson singled. Both Pappas and Anderson scored on a MacNamee single to center to give Blinn a 5-2 lead. Unfortunately, that would be the final time Blinn touched the plate as San Jacinto added two in the fifth, one in the sixth and the winning run in the 10th to notch the victory.
Blinn will hit the road again on Thursday, April 7 for a doubleheader against Galveston College beginning at 1 p.m.
