PASADENA, Texas – Two early runs were just enough for Blinn College softball to earn a 2-1 victory over San Jacinto College-South to get a split of the doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Pasadena.

The Buccaneers were shutout in the opening game 4-0 to split the pair. With the split, Blinn’s record moves to 26-15 overall and 11-3 in the Region XIV South Zone standings.

San Jacinto 4 – Blinn 0

Blinn was able to get five hits in the opening game but left seven on base as San Jacinto took advantage for a 4-0 victory to open the doubleheader.

Nicole Garcia had a pair of singles while Lauren Silver, Cheyenne Trader and Katy Sawyer each had a single in the loss. Faith Genoway pitched a solid game by going six innings and giving up only three earned runs on nine hits and three strikeouts in the loss in the circle. San Jacinto scored two runs in third and fourth innings to get the win.

Blinn 2 – San Jacinto 1

Blinn was able to score a pair of runs early and held off San Jacinto behind the pitching of Sam Junkin for a 2-1 victory to split the doubleheader.

Junkin pitched 6 2-3 innings and gave up one earned run on five hits while Genoway came on to get the final out for the save to seal the win.

Sawyer kept the bat going in the second game by driving in a run with a double while Katie Andrie also knocked in a run with a single. Meghann Wrinkle picked up the other hit for the Buccaneers as Blinn was outhit 6 to 3 but still managed the victory.

Blinn got the offense going in the second when Jordin Wilkins walked to get on base and then was brought in by a double by Sawyer for the first run of the game. Andrie doubled the lead in the third inning with an RBI single to right for a 2-0 edge. San Jacinto would score one in the seventh but Genoway closed the door on any comeback to seal the 2-1 victory.

Blinn will be on the road again on Sunday, March 3 for a doubleheader against Lamar State College – Port Arthur that begins at 1 p.m.
