The Brazos High School Band had a fantastic day at the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest at Edna High School, where ten of its talented members competed and earned a Superior Rating on their respective events. The Mighty Cougar Band has plenty of reason to celebrate, as six of its members have now advanced to the State Solo and Ensemble Contest, taking place over Memorial Day weekend.

Chloe Flores earned a first-place ranking for her Trombone Solo, and the Trumpet Trio of Maiya Nanes, Zach Janis, and Peyton Nanez also received top honors. Sara Mejia, a tenor saxophonist, earned a first-place ranking for her solo performance, while Megan McFarland received the same recognition for her French Horn Solo and will also advance to the state competition.

The Saxophone Trio of Cassie Gaytan, Patrick Martinez, and Sam Potter earned a first-place ranking and will represent Brazos High School at the state competition. Sam Rubio joined Cassie, Patrick, and Sara to form a Saxophone Quartet, also earning a first-place ranking and a trip to the state competition.

The Brazos High School Band has much to be proud of. Its members’ hard work and dedication have paid off with outstanding performances at the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest, and six of them will now move on to compete at the state level. The Mighty Cougar Band and its fans look forward to seeing what its talented musicians will achieve next.
