BRENHAM, Texas — The Blinn College women’s soccer team picked up a shutout win over Ranger College, 2-0, at Rankin Field Saturday night.
With the win, the Buccaneers improve to 3-2 overall.
“It was great to have a clean sheet and they played very well,” head coach Michael McBride said. “They created some chances and that was probably one of the best performances of the season so far. It was exceptional and I am really pleased.”
Goalie Hope Hillhouse recorded a shutout with five saves.
On offense, the Buccaneers outshot Ranger 12-5. Madison Kanelos and Lexington Kneedler led the way with one goal apiece.
“I loved everything about the game tonight as the women left everything out on the field today,” assistant coach Alexandria Jackson said. “The players coming off of our bench had a huge impact in our success tonight, especially Alyssa Cisneros and Morgan Winthrop. It was a complete team effort, and we look to continue to build off of this.”
Kanelos scored Blinn’s first goal from a corner kick in the 44th minute for the Buccaneers to lead. They held the 1-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, Kneedler scored the final goal in the 86th minute to extend Blinn’s lead to 2-0.
Next, Blinn will take on No. 16 Louisiana State University-Eunice on Friday, April 23, at 5 p.m. at Rankin Field. The game will feature Sophomore Day.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
