BRENHAM, Texas — The Blinn College men’s soccer team took down Ranger College, 4-1, in a non-conference game at Rankin Field Saturday.

With the win, the Buccaneers are now 3-2 overall.

“It was a good bounce-back victory against a good team,” head coach Michael McBride said. “We got off to a quicker start than normal, so that was really good to see. All in all, I am very happy.”

Marco Rodriguez Jr. and Stefan Fevrier Sildor each scored two goals and recorded one assist, while Cesar Cabrera recorded two assists, to lead Blinn’s offense.

Goalkeeper Diego Berlingeri led Blinn’s defense with six saves.

“The guys bounced back today after a tough result earlier this week on the road,” assistant coach Jacob Beerman said. “We had a great week of training, especially these past couple of days, and it correlated directly in how we did today as a team.  It’s the best I’ve seen us do in a start in any game so far and I am excited to see this momentum go into our next game on Tuesday. ”

Rodriguez Jr. assisted Fevrier Sildor in scoring Blinn’s first goal in the 24th minute. The Buccaneers held on to the 1-0 lead until halftime.

Ranger evened the score 1-1 in the 65th minute, but the Buccaneers took back the lead when Fevrier Sildor passed the ball to Rodriguez Jr. and he scored in the 69th minute.

Blinn extended its lead to 3-1 in the 77th minute when Cabrera assisted Rodriguez Jr. in scoring. Then, Cabrera assisted Fevrier Sildor in scoring the Buccaneers’ final goal in 82nd minute.

Next, the Buccaneers will resume conference play against No. 11 Coastal Bend College on Tuesday, April 20, at 3 p.m. at Rankin Field.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
