You won’t need to find a golden ticket to see Blinn College’s upcoming production of the classic “Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka.”

In the play, world famous chocolatier Willy Wonka hides five golden tickets in his delicious candy bars, and whoever finds these tickets wins a free tour of the Wonka factory. Four of the five children are beastly, but the fifth winner is a likable young man by the name of Charlie Bucket.

The Brenham campus Theatre Program will host 7 p.m. performances Nov. 20-22 with a 2 p.m. show Nov. 23. The play will be part of the College’s Service Learning project, and Blinn will host shows for local elementary school students Nov. 20-21.

Austin County News Online Facebook Weekly Ads SEO“There are about 30 cast members and with the Brenham Children’s Chorus performing there will be over 40, including 16 Oompa Loompas,” said Bradley Nies, theatre director.

Nies said that this particular production is based on the movie “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” from the 1970s as opposed to other stage versions. The performance will include songs that were not performed as part of the movie.

“Not only is it a Blinn College performance, but we are reaching out to the community with this,” Nies said. “This is the final performance of the semester and the students are really starting to thrive.”

The performance will be directed by Nies, with musical direction by Dr. Joel Plaag and Daniel Bircher and technical theatre art direction by Kevin Patrick. Costume, makeup, hair design and choreography is by Jennifer Patrick.

“I would just like to invite everyone to come out and support our students,” Nies said. “The audience will recognize a lot of the songs from the movie and it is a great show for the holidays.”

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in advance online at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice, by calling 979-830-4024 or by emailing [email protected]. Blinn students, faculty and staff can receive two free tickets.
