Congratulations to Bellville High School’s Science Olympiad team for securing third place overall at the Louisiana Tech Invitational this weekend. The competition took place at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA, in the Integrated Engineering and Sciences Building on Saturday, January 25, 2025. This invitational, featuring both Division B and C teams, provided an exciting opportunity to explore the world of science and showcase the team’s talent and dedication.

Science Olympiad tournaments consist of 23 events, classified into four categories to help participants, coaches, and teams strategize their approach. The event type determines how competitions are conducted and may influence tournament formats.
• Core Knowledge Events: Participants research specific topics and demonstrate mastery through written, station-based, or computer tests. These events are unaffected by tournament format changes.
• Build Events: Competitors design, construct, and test devices before the tournament, with potential modifications on-site. Some formats may limit or exclude these events for safety and fairness, with advance notice given to teams.
• Laboratory/Hands-On Events: Participants study a topic and apply research techniques in hands-on assessments during the tournament. These events may be modified to use pre-collected data instead of direct experimentation.
• Hybrid Events: A combination of Core Knowledge, Build, or Lab elements. Depending on the tournament format, hands-on or building aspects may be adjusted or removed.
