At Comissioners Court on Monday, January 27, 2025 Austin County Criminal District Attorney Travis Koehn announced his retirement, effective February 28, 2025, after serving 43 years in the Austin County District Attorney’s Office.

District Attorney Koehn began his career on February 1, 1982, under then-District Attorney Charles Houston. For more than six years, Houston and Koehn prosecuted felony cases across Austin, Fayette, and Waller counties. When District Attorney Houston decided not to seek reelection, Koehn ran for the position and was elected in 1988. In 1989, the Texas Legislature merged the Austin County District Attorney’s Office with the Austin County Attorney’s Office, creating the Criminal District Attorney’s Office. Governor Bill Clements appointed Koehn as the head of the newly established office. Over the course of his career, Austin County voters reaffirmed their trust in Koehn by electing him to office in ten consecutive elections, spanning nearly five decades. He currently holds the distinction of being the longest-serving district attorney in Texas. Throughout his tenure, Koehn has collaborated with law enforcement officers, support staff, and public officials both within Austin County and across the state. He has been a steadfast advocate for justice, working tirelessly to ensure the safety and stability of the community. His leadership and dedication have significantly contributed to making Austin County a safer place.

In light of his retirement, Koehn has recommended First Assistant District Attorney Brandy Robinson to Governor Greg Abbott as his successor. Robinson has worked alongside Koehn for nearly 20 years, demonstrating extensive experience and commitment to the office. Upon Koehn’s retirement, Robinson will serve as acting District Attorney until an appointment is made to complete the remainder of his term, which runs until the 2026 election. Koehn has expressed his full confidence in Robinson’s ability to lead the office, ensuring continuity in the pursuit of justice for Austin County residents.

To District Attorney Koehn, we sincerely appreciate your dedicated years of selfless service and extend our warmest wishes on your retirement. May this new chapter bring you joy, relaxation, and countless cherished moments with your loved ones. Enjoy every moment to the fullest!
