Austin County officially started the countdown to the opening of three new EMS stations for the county.  Groundbreaking ceremonies were held at the Wallis location, Bellville location and Industry location.  The descriptions below are in order of ceremony.

Wallis EMS Station

The groundbreaking for the new EMS Station in Wallis, TX took place on September 16, 2022, at 9 am at the construction site located approximately at 6512 Guyler St. (an exact address has not been issued for the lot yet).

According to Kenney Burns of Burns Architecture; from the groundbreaking to finish will be 12 months.  The building process started a while back with many things taking place behind the scenes including permitting and permitting review, working with the contractor, review of drawings as well as deciding and securing all the products that will be placed in the building once it is constructed.  In the next week or two the equipment will start being brought in to start moving dirt and leveling to begin construction.

Walter Morrow, the Austin County EMS Chief gave us a quick interview and answered questions on the new site.

Bellville EMS Station

The groundbreaking for the new EMS Station in Bellville, TX took place on September 16, 2022, at 11 am at the site located across from the current EMS station at 844 W. Main   The new station will be identical to the one being built in Wallis as far as layout.

The service area will be district 1 which runs halfway to Sealy, covers the Cat Spring area and halfway out to industry on the Northeast Side of the county.  The station will be staffed with one full time crew, a ready reserve unit as well as logistics for the location.  There will be 2 crew on an ambulance at a time with the ability to expand as the area grows.

Currently, the Bellville EMS station has such space limitations that it does not have the room to allow for the crews to able to have the ambulance bay doors closed and be able to open the rear of an ambulance parked inside at the same time.   The current location also forces crews to back up a hill in order to back the ambulances into their bays.

Industry EMS Station

The groundbreaking for the new EMS Station in Industry, TX took place on September 16, 2022, at 2 pm at the site located next to the fire station at 1247 Main.   The new station will be slightly smaller than the ones being built in Wallis and Bellville as far as layout but, will still have room for growth forecast for at least the next 10 years.  Crews are already present and leveling the site in preparation of construction.

Walter Morrow, the Austin County EMS Chief gave us a quick interview and answered questions on the new site.
