Herbert Brune has been a lifelong resident of Austin County and has been active in several areas of the community in regards to public service.  He most recently served as valued member of the Austin County Soil & Water Conservation District. On June 23, 2015, he resigned after 29 years of faithful and dedicated service which included serving as vice chairman.

Mr. Brune was born on November 23, 1921.  He has farmed in Austin County all of his life except for 3 years when he was called to serve our country during WWII in the Army Air Corp.   Shortly before his 21st birthday, in October 1942, he reported for active duty, and after he returned home on January 9, 1946, he continued farming and ranching.  Mr. Brune married Marie Wasajm in 1952, and they have been together ever since.  Herbert has been an active member of the East Bernard Mason Lodge 817 for 9 years, a member of the American Legion for 45+ years, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Sealy for over 50 years.

Today he has a total of 198 acres on and around his homestead near Sealy, Texas, plus 70 acres in Burleigh and 134 acres in the Mill Creek Bottom. He had a few head of cattle in the early years but farming row crops like cotton and corn was his main source of income.  In his later years, he has completely dedicated his land to ranching with a larger herd of cattle.

Mr. Brune’s service to our community included being a part of the Community Committee for many years during which time he contributed to the decisions and election process of those who would serve on the Farm Service Agency County Committee. He himself was elected to the FSA County Committee from 1978 thru 1985.  During that time, he was elected Chairman for a term of 3 years. Directly after his service with FSA, Mr. Brune was selected as Director for the Austin County Soil and Water Conservation District. While on the SWCD board, he was an integral part of the decision making process concerning conservation activities and plans in Austin County and attended many South Central Association of Soil and Water Conservation District meetings, Area Meetings and State meetings.  We are most grateful for his many years of dedicated service to our country and community, and for being a friend of conservation.  Thanks Herbert!
