Williams put in a long-range header less than 10 minutes into the game to put Blinn on the scoreboard and beat Northeast Texas goalie Raul Torrez to score the Bucs’ second goal with 12:27 remaining in the first half.
Blinn (5-4-2 overall, 3-4-1 in conference) continually pressured the Northeast Texas defense with a host of shots scooting just wide of the goal.
“This team has grown so much since we came together in August,” assistant coach Rudy Roediger said. “Overall, we had a really good performance. It’s the start of the second half of the conference season, so it’s kind of like a new season for us.”
He said the Bucs have been able to develop a deep bench that will help in a second-half conference season run.
“If they continue to grow, I think it’s going to be a pretty exciting second half of the season,” he said.
The Bucs, with 40 goals in 11 games, are nearing a school record for scoring. The record is 42 goals, set by the 2019 team that had one player who scored 17 goals alone.
“We’ve spread out the scoring,” said Roediger. “If Marco Rodriguez doesn’t score, somebody else is coming up with it. That’s a good sign of a team. The work they’ve put in is being rewarded.”
Roediger also said goalkeeper Kevin Pena had several key saves.
The Bucs don’t play again until Saturday, Oct. 2, when they host Cap City Soccer Club at 1 p.m. at Rankin Field.
