Americans had better wake up. We are about to see a persecution that we haven’t seen for 300 years. But that might be good news…

Liberty always brings prosperity. Prosperity always pacifies the people. Persecution awakens the people & returns them to Liberty. It is a matter of human nature.

We need to be reminded from time to time the value of Liberty. Jefferson said,

“What country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. It is it’s natural manure.” ~ Jefferson to Williams Stevens Smith, 1787

The benefit of a Constitutional Republic is that we don’t have to fulfill that history. Because, as the Declaration of Independence reminds us:

“To secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government”

In a kingdom our only options were violent rebellion and chopping off heads. In a Constitutional Republic, we can chop of political heads without violence. The interesting thing is that both scenarios will have disastrous results without the resolve of the people dedicated to Liberty. Just a weak showing of people who lack a foundation in the knowledge necessary to fuel the courage to persevere, will always result in failure and greater tyranny.

But, when a people have a firm foundation in the price and value of Liberty, we cannot be defeated. Persecution drives people to the knowledge. Persecution makes people awaken and cling to their Liberty. Persecution awakens people to the truth that…

“The liberties of our Country, the freedom of our civil constitution are worth defending at all hazards: And it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have receiv’d them as a fair Inheritance from our worthy Ancestors: They purchas’d them for us with toil and danger and expence of treasure and blood; and transmitted them to us with care and diligence.

It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle; or be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men. Of the latter we are in most danger at present: Let us therefore be aware of it.

Let us contemplate our forefathers and posterity; and resolve to maintain the rights bequeath’d to us from the former, for the sake of the latter. — Instead of sitting down satisfied with the efforts we have already made, which is the wish of our enemies, the necessity of the times, more than ever, calls for our utmost circumspection, deliberation, fortitude, and perseverance.

Let us remember that “if we suffer tamely a lawless attack upon our liberty, we encourage it, and involve others in our doom.” It is a very serious consideration, which should deeply impress our minds, that millions yet unborn may be the miserable sharers of the event.” ~ Samuel Adams, The Boston Gazette October 14, 1771. (Essay written under the pseudonym “Candidus”)
