Fox News 26 in Houston as well as ABC 13 are reporting that the Waller County Sheriff Department has issued a felony arrest warrant for Nilsson Daniel Vargas Tuesday on a charge of sexual assault of a child. The incident occurred in Waller County, but there may have been more in Austin, as well as in Fort Bend and Harris counties.

Waller County Assistant District Attorney Warren Diepraam stated, “what we have alleged is he used the church for grooming for these kids.”

One of those churches was Christian City Fellowship of Austin County.  Vargas has admitted to sexually assaulting two males who were teens at the time. One victim reached out to Pastor Rusty Griffin at Christian City who immediately took action.

“That was our first concern”, stated Griffin who admitted he had no knowledge of the actions but wasted no time acting when he was made aware of the situation.  Griffin stated that Vargas was not a part of the leadership, staff or youth counselor volunteer at his church.

Authorities say Vargas first gained his victim’s trust, then began to inappropriately touch the child; they say the alleged assault lasted for years, and the victim felt pressured and too ashamed to ask for help. That victim is now cooperating with investigators.

When questioned about the sex acts, court papers state Vargas responded by telling police, “If they say it happened then it happened.”

If convicted, Vargas faces up to 20 years in prison and could have to pay a fine as large as $10,000. He would also be required to register as a sex offender.
