Three separate occasions show the character of the law enforcement we have here in Austin County.

Deputies Leal and Olvera

On August 25, 2016 at 6:40 a.m. Deputy Leal responded to a report of a theft of guns and ammunition at a residence located on Hillview Road in Austin County. When Deputy Leal arrived, he was informed by the resident that someone entered his property and stole his guns and ammunition. Deputy Leal conducted an investigation and while waiting for the resident to write his statement, Deputy Leal was informed by Deputy Olvera that he had stopped a vehicle at 2:56 a.m. that morning and found the stolen guns and ammunition in that vehicle. Deputy Olvera then arrested the driver for Possession of Marijuana and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and placed him in the Austin County Jail. Later that day, the driver was also charged with Burglary of a Habitation with the Intent to Commit Other Felonies. The deputies recovered twelve guns, four scopes, a flashlight, ammunition and knives. The deputies, along with an Austin County Investigator, returned all stolen property to the resident that same day.

“This shows great teamwork between our deputies, which results in the citizens of Austin County coming out on top. I am very proud of these two deputies and all employees of the Sheriff’s Office. We all work together to keep Austin County safe and protect your property,” says Sheriff Jack Brandes.

Deputy Kelly Lamance

On Saturday, July 16, 2016 Deputy Kelly Lamance helped travelers who were passing through Austin County.  The driver was so appreciative that the following message was sent to the Sheriff’s Office:

“As we were traveling east on Interstate 10, our boat trailer had a blowout right before the Sealy exit. While pulling over to the shoulder, an officer escorted us with his lights flashing to safety. In this day and time, we felt it important for you to know how much respect and appreciation we have for all law men and women especially this sheriff deputy. He insisted on helping us in very heavy traffic and 100* heat! By the time my husband retrieved the jack, the officer had all lugs on tire loosened and ready to be changed. We were back on the road in 15 min.”

Investigator Charles Holmes

On a day that Investigator Charles Holmes was off duty and at home, he was contacted by an 83 year old female. The woman informed Investigator Holmes that she drove from Oklahoma to Bellville to find her father’s grave. Investigator Holmes, on his day off, met this lady and drove her to where her father’s grave is located. The grave site is located out in the rural area of Austin County, and very hard to find. The actions of Investigator Holmes represents our Austin County Sheriff’s Office extremely well and he is very much appreciated.

Sheriff Brandes had the following to say:  I am very proud of Deputy Lamance and Investigator Holmes for going above and beyond the call of duty. Coming to the aid of citizens, either while in uniform, on patrol, or at home off duty, is what Austin County Deputies are all about. We have excellent deputies that truly care about the people of Austin County. I am very proud of all Sheriff’s Office employees and feel honored to work with them.”
