Richard Reese was presented with the “Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the week” Award on Wednesday by Ryan Ford’s Ryan Kirkpatrick.   Reese ran for 345 yards on 24 carries in a 54-41 win over Cameron Yoe.

Bellville has three running backs in the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame, including
Willie Zapalac, Ernie Koy and Ted Koy. But no Brahmas running back has surpassed Richard Reese’s 345 yards on 24 carries in a 54-41 win over Cameron Yoe. Reese’s record precedes Zapalac’s, the longtime Texas Longhorns assistant coach during the Darrell Royal era, old school record of 323 yards against Caldwell in 1938. On Friday night, Reese also scored on runs of 49, 30, 26, 40, 67, and 3 yards, caught a 40-yard scoring pass and had a 39-yard kickoff return for 424 all-purpose yards. He’s already receiving recruiting inquiries, which will no doubt increase in the wake of his record-setting performance in a game that featured scoring plays totaling more than 500 yards.

‘The best way I can describe Richard is that he runs angry, but he can outrun you if he needs to. One of his best runs was a 3-yard carry for a first down when they had him in the backfield, and he got away. Richard was born in Bellville and was in my Little Brahma program when he was younger, so he knows about the football tradition in Bellville. It’s been neat to see him grow up and play for us.” – Bellville coach Grady Rowe

Player of the Week Program Overview

For its 15th Year, Ford and its dealers join together for the Annual “Built Ford
Tough Texas High School Football Player of the week” award to recognize the on- and
off-field accomplishments of the Lone Star State’s gridiron heroes.

Honoring Elite Texas Student-Athletes

The “Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week” program will
recognize one high school student-athlete in six of the state’s athletic classifications –
2A, 3A, 4A, SA, 6A and private schools – every week of the regular season of the 2020
Texas high school football schedule.

Each player taking the field throughout the 2020 football season will have the
opportunity to be nominated for the Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player
of the Week, simply by excelling in three categories:

  • Individual performance on the field, including significant statistics from that week’s game
    • Contribution to the team’s success through their individual leadership abilities
    • Performance off the field of play, including academic success and community
    citizenship

Nominating the State’s Best

Each week, coaches, athletic directors and the public are invited to nominate players for
this award. Additionally, Ford’s advisory-board will identify qualified candidates, based on
the program criteria. Nominations submitted by 11:00 am Central time on the Monday
following-the game will be considered for that week’s award. Once the nomination pool is
established, a weekly winner will be selected from each classification.  At the conclusion of the 10+ week regular season, one student-athlete in each classification will be selected as the Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Year. Honorees will be recognized at a statewide event following the championship games.
