**Pecan entries are due no later than Monday, November 25th. Registration for the awards show and pecan program is no later than Monday, December 2nd.**

 

 

The Horticulture Committee of Austin County will host its Annual Pecan Show on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office, located at 800 E. Wendt St., Bellville, TX 77418. The event will feature a brief educational program presented by Stephen Janak, Extension Specialist. He will present “Pecans -Are They More Than Just a Nut? Alternative Products Made From Pecans.” After the program will be the awards presentation to celebrate this year’s top entries. 

Entry Guidelines for Submitting Your Pecans:
Pecan enthusiasts can submit their entries to the AgriLife Extension Office located at 800 E. Wendt St., Bellville, TX 77418 starting Friday, November 1, during regular business hours (8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m.) until Monday, November 25. The final deadline for entries is 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25.

Key Requirements for submissions:

  • Each entry must include 50 pecans of the same variety, placed in a brown paper bag provided by the office.
  • Entries must be accompanied by a completed entry card.
  • There is no entry fee.
  • No age restrictions apply.
  • Submissions are open to residents of Austin County or nearby counties without a local pecan show.

 

 

Judges will evaluate entries based on kernel weight, color, fill, and blemishes, with ten pecans randomly selected per entry. Top-performing pecans will advance to the regional pecan show and potentially to the state competition. Participants can retrieve their non-advancing entries at the AgriLife Extension Office on December 4, following the awards presentation. Contest results will be posted at the office, on the AgriLife Facebook page, and the AgriLife website.
