BRENHAM, Texas — The No. 23 Blinn College women’s basketball team downed Bossier Parish Community College, 103-71, in the Kruse Center Monday.
With the win, the Buccaneers improved their overall record to 15-5 and conference record to 11-3.
“I thought our kids played really hard and shot the ball well,” head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “Everybody played well and the effort was good. This was the third game in a row where we got to play everyone on the team, so that was fun since everybody works so hard in practice every day.”
Five Buccaneers scored double-digit points to lead Blinn’s offense. Hailey Atwood scored a season-high 34 points, Telisha Brown followed with 16, Keaundra Eddings put up 11, and Briauna Johnson and Alex Bowman each put up 10.
“We go hard in practice and everyone has the same goal, so whenever we step on the court to compete, we get the results from practice,” Bowman said. “When you make over 100 points that means you are hitting shots, so that helped. We were pushing the ball and got the job done.”
Blinn raced to a 13-2 lead to open the game. Rebekah Malik made two straight 3-pointers for the Buccaneers to hold a 10-point advantage, 19-9. Brown hit a shot from downtown to conclude a 10-0 run for the Buccaneers to lead 26-9. Blinn built its lead to 34-19 to end the first quarter.
Blinn opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run. Then, Atwood scored six straight points for the Buccaneers to stay ahead 46-27. Blinn took a 54-29 lead when Atwood hit a shot from downtown. Bowman scored the Buccaneers’ final two points of the quarter for Blinn to lead 56-31 at halftime.
The Buccaneers came out of the half strong and leaped to a 66-39 advantage with 6:10 on the clock. Brown went on a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 72-41. Bowman led Blinn on an 11-6 run with seven points to conclude the third quarter with an 83-48 lead.
Blinn cruised to a 98-64 lead in the final quarter. Bossier Parish went on its longest run of the game, scoring nine straight points. However, Johnson answered back on a 5-0 run for the Buccaneers to conclude the game with a 32-point victory.
Next, the Buccaneers will compete against Coastal Bend College on Wednesday, March 31, at 5:30 p.m. in their final home game of the season in the Kruse Center.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
