The 20th-ranked Blinn College women’s basketball team remained atop the Region XIV standings with a 65-57 home win over Angelina College on Saturday at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.
The Buccaneers improved to 12-5 overall and 3-1 in the region, while the Roadrunners fell to 3-1 in region play.
“This was a great win today for us,” Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “Angelina was undefeated in conference and was scoring in the 80s. For us to hold them to 57 is a really good defensive performance.”
The Buccaneers trailed 16-15 after the opening period but rallied to tie the game at 27-all by halftime. Blinn then surged ahead 48-36 by the end of the third quarter before holding off Angelina across the final 10 minutes of play.
Freshman forward Tocarra Johnson paced the Bucs with 13 points, while sophomore guard Tianna Mathis added 11. Freshman guard Elizabeth Walter finished with 10 points, sophomore forward Jasmyn Jackson tallied eight, and freshman guards Chelsy Singleton and DJ Kincade chipped in six apiece.
The Buccaneers continue their season with a road trip to Coastal Bend College at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, in Beeville, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 45 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
