On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, a narcotics seizure unfolded on Interstate 10, leading to the arrest of a suspect by the Austin County Sheriff’s Office Investigators. These investigators are currently assigned to the Westside Narcotics Task Force, a collaborative effort aimed at curbing the distribution and use of illegal narcotics in the region.

The incident occurred when Juan Orozco, a 24-year-old resident of Houston, Texas, was stopped for a traffic violation at the 716 Westbound mile marker on Interstate 10. The traffic stop, initially conducted for a standard violation, escalated when a search of Orozco’s vehicle revealed the presence of illegal narcotics. Investigators seized 43 grams of pills from the vehicle, which later tested positive for Fentanyl, a highly potent and illicit substance.

Following the discovery of the controlled substance, Orozco was arrested and faced one charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1. He was transported and booked into the Austin County Jail without any incident. The defendant cooperated with the law enforcement officers throughout the arrest and booking process.

The investigation into this case is still ongoing, with the authorities examining the details and exploring any potential leads that could provide more insight into the narcotics’ source and intended distribution.  The Westside Narcotics Task Force, responsible for this seizure, is a coalition of investigators from various law enforcement agencies, including the Austin County Sheriff’s Office, Bellville PD, Sealy PD, Hempstead PD, Waller County Sheriff’s Office, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). This task force is dedicated to combating the narcotics epidemic by conducting coordinated operations to identify, apprehend, and prosecute individuals involved in the illegal narcotics trade.
