The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, in partnership with the Mill Creek Watershed Partnership, will host the annual Mill Creek Cleanup Event on November 9, 2024, in Bleiblerville. Since much of the Mill Creek watershed is privately owned this event invites landowners with property within the Mill Creek Watershed to help clean up their sections of the creek, with the assistance of a sponsored dumpster provided for waste disposal.

Cleanup supplies, including trash bags and gloves, are available for pickup at the Austin County AgriLife Extension Office in Bellville or the Washington County AgriLife Extension Office in Brenham between October 28 and November 8. On the day of the event, the dumpster will be stationed at the Bleiblerville Volunteer Fire Department from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Annalee Epps, Mill Creek Watershed Coordinator, encourages community involvement: “This is a great opportunity for landowners to remove waste that has washed onto their property. I encourage people to gather family and friends to clean up sections of Mill Creek.” Registration is required by contacting Epps at 979-321-5921 or emailing [email protected]. More information is available on the Mill Creek Watershed Partnership website at millcreek.tamu.edu.

The Mill Creek Watershed Partnership was formed by local stakeholders in 2016 in response to rising E. coli levels in Mill Creek. The partnership offers free educational programs and outreach events to encourage watershed residents to adopt best management practices. This initiative is funded by a federal Clean Water Act nonpoint source grant, administered by the Texas Soil and Water Conservation Board and supported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
