BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College men’s basketball kept No. 5 San Jacinto College-Central within striking distance the entire second half but still fell 92-84 Saturday evening inside the P.E. Building.
With the loss, Blinn falls to 11-6 overall and 2-5 in Region XIV play.
At times, Juwan Green was unstoppable on offense and finished the game with 26 points. Antione Lister finished with 13, James Harrison and Tyrus Grayson each scored 12 and Markques Houston chipped in 11 points.
San Jacinto shot out to an early 18-7 lead with 17:36 left in the first half. Blinn was able to hit shots to keep itself in the game. Green led with 10 points while Grayson and Lister each scored six points but it was San Jacinto leading 42-34 at the half.
Blinn opened up the second half with a 3-pointer from Lister but then San Jacinto fired back with 10 straight points to take a 52-37 lead with 15:31 left. The Buccaneers were able to cut into the San Jacinto lead and even got within four points on two different occasions in the final two minutes.
Green scored 16 points in the second half penetrating the San Jacinto defense and Harrison added eight but San Jacinto was able to pull away late for the eight-point victory.
Blinn will next hit the road on Monday, Jan. 23 against Kilgore College at 7 p.m. Kilgore is 2-5 in Region XIV games through seven games.
