BRENHAM, Texas – The Blinn College men’s basketball team won its third consecutive game Friday night with a 78-65 Region XIV Conference victory over the Kilgore Rangers at the Kruse Center.

Sophomore guard Markques Houston led the Buccaneers with 20 points, Brenham High School grad Antione Lister scored 13, and Gianni Ford added 11. Tyrus Grayson and Curtlon Wesley each scored nine.

The Buccaneers took a 42-41 lead into halftime after a Tony Lewis tip-in as the clock ran out.

“I thought we played a really good game,” coach Scott Schumacher said. “It was a tough, gritty game, but we were able to get a lead and then we were able to make our free throws down the stretch to keep it.

“I thought our guys played a really good game. They played together, played hard, and played with a purpose.”

With the victory, Blinn improved to 10-3 on the season and 2-2 in conference play. The Buccaneers are now 9-1 at home this season.

“We like the food here in Brenham,” Schumacher joked.

The Buccaneers travel to Tyler Junior College Monday for a 7 p.m. game against the Apaches, then return to the Kruse Center Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off against Trinity Valley Community College. That game will be part of a double-header, as the Blinn women’s basketball team hosts Coastal Bend College at 5:30 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
