September is National Voter Registration Month, and it’s the perfect time to ensure you’re prepared for the upcoming election on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Texans are encouraged to check their voter registration status, make updates if needed, or register for the first time so their voices can be heard at the polls.

Don’t wait until the last minute — many people tend to put this off until just before the deadline, which can create unnecessary stress or even keep you from voting. Taking care of your registration now gives you peace of mind and ensures you’re ready well ahead of Election Day.

Checking Your Registration

The easiest way for Texas voters to confirm their voter registration status is through the official “Am I Registered?” portal provided by the Texas Secretary of State. This tool lets you see if you’re registered, check your voting precinct, and confirm your information is accurate. You can also visit VoteTexas.gov, which offers registration status lookups along with information on polling locations, how to register, and answers to frequently asked questions. Prefer talking to someone directly? Contact your county voter registrar’s office, and they can verify your registration and provide help specific to your county.

Updating Your Name or Address

Already registered but need to make changes? Texas provides a free Voter Name and Address Change service for updates. This service allows you to:

  • Update your residential address
  • Correct or change your legal name

Important things to know:

  • If you move to a new county, your registration in the old county will be canceled and updated to your new county.
  • A new voter certificate will arrive in the mail within 30 days of submitting changes.
  • If updates are made less than 30 days before an election, you must still vote at your current polling location.

To use this service, you’ll need:

  • Your current Texas Driver License or ID Card
  • Your Social Security Number
  • Your Voter Registration Card VUID (Voter Unique Identifier), available from your county voter registrar

Note: Updating your voter registration does not update your driver license. If you also need to change your name or address on your license, visit the Texas Driver License and ID Card Online Services website.

Registering to Vote – Your Vote, Your Voice

Not registered yet? It’s not too late. Texas residents can visit VoteTexas.gov for step-by-step instructions on how to register and confirm eligibility for the November election. National Voter Registration Month serves as a reminder of the importance of civic participation. Whether you’re registering for the first time, updating your name or address, or simply double-checking your status, acting early is the best way to make sure your vote will count on November 4, 2025.
