The Blinn College women’s soccer team kept its perfect season intact with a 6-1 Region 14 rout of Jacksonville College on Saturday at Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.

The Buccaneers improved to 2-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in region play.

“I was really happy with the win, especially when it happens in a way that allows us to play everybody and get them some experience,” Blinn head coach Alexandria Jackson said. “It was a full team win where everyone gave 100 percent and we’re really happy to still be undefeated and continue to grow and stay on our path.”

It was all Blinn from the outset as the Buccaneers got on the scoreboard first in just the third minute when sophomore midfielder ย took a feed from freshman midfielderย Mikaela Julianoย and fired a shot into the Jaguar net.

Madrid struck again in the sixth minute off an assist from sophomore midfielderย Allison Bratzย as the lead grew to 2-0.

The Bucs kept their offensive flurry going when sophomore midfielderย Marguerite Funkย converted a penalty kick in the 16th minute.

“We’ve been working on our defensive transitioning, and I think some of that came together today,” Funk said. “We played off our defense, played the ball up into the final third and scored off defensive pressure.”

Freshman forwardย Kamryn Shamblinย made it 4-0 in the 30th minute off a give from freshman midfielderย Saya Shiratsuki.

After the intermission, Jacksonville broke up the shutout with a goal in the 67th minute.

The Bucs got a quick response in the 67th minute from sophomore forwardย Karla Gonzalezย (assisted by freshman midfielderย Angela Chairez), and Funk capped the scoring in the 80th on an assist from Bratz.

Blinn out-shot the Jaguars 16-8, with 14 shots on goal.

Freshman goalkeeperย Mia Kingย earned the victory in goal after making seven saves.

“When you give up a goal, it can eat at you, but the key is to shake it off, learn from it, and be ready for the next play,” King said. “The biggest lessons come from the goals you allow, and I think there are some things I’ll take away from today and learn from.”

Next up, the Bucs visit Northeast Texas Community College for a region tilt at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, in Mount Pleasant, Texas.ย 

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53ย national championships since 1987.
