In the heart of Austin County, the small town of Bellville witnessed a devastating natural disaster on Friday, March 15, 2024. A sudden and fierce hailstorm, accompanied by strong winds, hit the town, causing significant damage to homes, vehicles, and infrastructure.
Among those affected were the Espinoza family, whose mobile home was destroyed in the chaos. Ricardo Espinoza was in their childhood home when the storm hit, while his brother Osvaldo was at work. Their father, Eulogio, a retired worker from Tesco, was visiting Mexico at the time. Ricardo experienced the terrifying moments when the hail began, followed by the windows breaking, walls caving in, and the roof lifting. He sought refuge under the kitchen table as golf ball to tennis ball-sized hail pelted down on him.
The family lost everything but their lives in the storm and has been giving glory to God for their survival. Community members, upon seeing the family’s laundry hanging on the fence, offered support, asking if they were okay and offering to help with their laundry. The local Laundromat in Bellville also stepped in to assist with their newly laundered clothes.
In the aftermath of the disaster, the Espinoza family has turned to the community for help. They have set up a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $10,000 to assist in recovering from the storm’s destruction. The funds will be used to either rebuild or acquire a new mobile home. The campaign reads, “We’re asking for help recovering from a tornado that destroyed our mobile home. We will be using the funds to help us afford to either rebuild or get a new mobile home. My beloved brother was unfortunately in the house when the tornado passed through but thank God he is doing well and only experienced minor physical injuries. Anything will help and we are grateful for anything you’re blessing us with.”
So far, the campaign has raised $4,112, but more support is needed to reach their goal. The Espinoza family’s story is a testament to the resilience of small-town communities and the power of coming together in times of need. The people of Austin County and surrounding areas are asked to contribute what they can to the GoFundMe and help the Espinoza family rebuild their lives after this tragic event.
To support the Espinoza family, please visit their GoFundMe page and consider making a donation. Every little bit helps, and your generosity can make a significant difference in their recovery journey.
