BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College women’s basketball came out a little sluggish in the first half but that didn’t stop it from earning a 103-68 blowout victory over Louisiana State University-Eunice Dec. 16 in Brenham.
The Buccaneers controlled the game from the middle of the first half and run away with the 35-point victory to improve their overall record to 10-5.
“It’s a tough game for us,” said Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins. “We played this game so we could keep practicing because we are about to give the team 11 days off.”
Katelynn Johnson was a consistent scorer for Blinn as she led the team with 22 points while Nancy Warioba also was a force near the basket and finished with 21 points. Moe Bedford reached double figures for the Buccaneers with 11 points and Shakera Barnes finished with 10 points in the victory.
Blinn did jump out to a 12-2 lead early on as Johnson scored eight early points in the first three minutes but LSU-Eunice fought back. Eunice even grabbed the momentum and a 28-26 lead but the Buccaneers would finish off the first half strong.
Johnson scored 13 points in the first half and Warioba was a rebounding force and was able to put in 10 points in the first 20 minutes to guide Blinn to a 55-44 lead at the break.
The passing and the entire offense looked much better in the second half for Blinn as it worked the ball around much better to earn quality shots. Warioba scored 11 points in the latter half to help to finish off Eunice. Johnson and Courtney Dawson each scored nine points in the second half to guide Blinn to its 10th victory of the season.
The Buccaneers will get back into action on Jan. 7 when they travel to face Kilgore College at 5:30 p.m. for a conference game.
