The Washington County Attorney's Office is seeking applicants for the position of Deputy Clerk for the Brenham, Texas office. This is a full-time position that serves the Washington County Attorney.

SUMMARY

Provide a full range of support to both the County Attorney and the Assistant County Attorneys including assistance in Criminal, Juvenile, and County civil matters.

Reports to Washington County Attorney and/or Assistant County Attorney.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • General office duties such as answering the phone, taking messages, typing, faxing, copying, and scanning
  • Direct callers/customers to the appropriate office
  • Create files for new criminal cases
  • Once the new criminal cases are filed, print appropriate paperwork and forward the case to the appropriate person for entry into the County Attorney's database
  • Pull current criminal cases for court dockets
  • Note new setting information or disposition information on files as directed.
  • File away disposed cases
  • Deliver paperwork to corresponding offices
  • Responsible for mailing and postage
  • Order supplies
  • Monitor case and document retention policies and manage the physical files in the scheduling order for destruction
  • Assist the County Attorney and/or 1st Assistant County Attorney as directed.
  • Responsible for updating and keeping track of the County Attorney office calendar with appointments and important due dates
  • Assist attorneys with Bond Forfeiture cases
  • Type judgments and disbursement letters for bond forfeiture cases.
  • E-file and E-serve legal documents

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Handle variety of tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally
  • Attention to detail
  • Answer phone calls
  • General office procedure knowledge preferred
  • High School Diploma

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Organization, communication, and grammatical skills are essential.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to learn, update and edit existing proprietary applications and quickly learn to use various computer systems.
  • Ability to work independently with frequent interruptions, manage deadlines and adapt to changes in workflow.
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, court representatives, law enforcement representatives, attorneys, victims, defendants, and witnesses.
  • No supervisory skills needed.
  • Able to manage the case load and tasks with fellow employees, equally.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be insurable with the County insurance carrier.
  • Must pass pre-employment screening

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Primarily sedentary including sitting and walking.
  • Occasional lifting of 5 - 20 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily light physical and intellectually stressful work in an office environment.
