BRENHAM, Texas- The Blinn College women’s basketball team stormed back in the fourth quarter to defeat Weatherford College, 77-74, on Saturday afternoon in the P.E. Building.
“We made defensive stops when we really needed them down the stretch,” said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach.
Freshman Alanna Spencer led the Blinn offense with 15 points after hitting five three-pointers. Jade Rochelle followed with 12 points, while Rayanna Carter and Kayla Konarik chipped in with 11 each, and Aaliyah Holmes scored 10.
Although the Buccaneers went into the final quarter down by one point, Weatherford took off on a 9-2 run to take a 65-57 lead. The Buccaneers charged back to outscore Weatherford 20 to nine for the win.
The Buccaneers kicked off the game with a 17-12 lead in the first quarter before Weatherford put up 23 points in the second quarter to lead 35-34 at the half.
Spencer led the Buccaneers with 12 points in the second half coming from four shots from downtown to help lead the Buccaneers to victory.
Blinn’s record increases to 4-1 following the win.
The Buccaneers will head on the road for their first conference game against Trinity Valley Community College on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
