Fatal Shooting Incident in Bellville Leads to Arrest of Teen Suspect

Bellville, TX – A tragic incident unfolded in Bellville, Texas on Friday, May 24, 2024, when the Austin County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) and the Bellville Police Department responded to a 911 emergency call reporting a shooting at a residence located in the 700 block of Old Hwy 36. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered a dire scene.

The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Kody Lowe, was detained in the front yard of the home without incident. Inside the residence, officers found 74-year-old Karen McAndrews, who had been fatally shot. Austin County EMS promptly assessed the victim and confirmed her death at the scene.

The area was quickly secured by ACSO patrol deputies and supervisors as investigators sought to understand the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
