The Austin County Commissioners Court took the first steps this morning to transfer ownership of the old county jail in Sealy, located at 240 Main Street, to the Sealy Area Historical Society. The historical society plans to renovate the building and turn it into a museum. This is part of their greater plan to recreate “Old Sealy”, a streetscape that will be a recreation of a street in Sealy for the early 1900 time period. Some of the repairs that the building needs include replacing rotted wood, fixing broken windows as well as mold removal. The society estimates that it will cost at least $12,600 in repairs just to get the structure back to a tolerable nature. The full discussion can be seen below starting at the 00:21:56 of the video:
