The Blinn College cheer stunt team placed sixth at the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) National Partner Stunt Girls “4” Championship in Orlando, Fla.
It marked the second time in program history that Blinn cheer has qualified and sent a stunt team to nationals. Blinn was the only two-year college to qualify out of the 12 teams selected.
“We were really proud about what they did at the competition. They were the first all-girl stunt group to perform in the new arena at ESPN Wide World of Sports, so that was exciting,” said Michael Brewster, Blinn cheer coach. “We focused on our technique and hitting the routine cleaning and did really well in the competition.”
The team consisted of sophomore Marina Guerrero, and freshmen Ashlyn Beard, Alyssa Gabrillo, and Madison Looney. The trip was made possible with the support of the Buccaneer Alumni Lettermen Association.
The Blinn cheer team will look for its fifth consecutive national championship at the NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship in April in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
