On September 6, 2023, the Wallis EDC received a comprehensive presentation about the Wallis Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project, slated for construction just outside the Wallis City Limits off Norcross Rd. This ambitious project is currently in its initial phase, the Interconnection Study Process, with a planned four-phase schedule culminating in full operation in late 2024/early 2025. The presentation not only addressed the project’s timeline but also reassured the Wallis, Texas community about safety measures that will be in place to prevent thermal runaway fires, the primary fear voiced by the community.
