BRENHAM, Texas – With a balanced scoring attack that saw six Buccaneers score in double figures, Blinn College men’s basketball secured a 107-92 victory Nov. 14 against Texas Southern University Club in Brenham.
Lionheart Leslie led the balanced scoring attack with another solid game of 22 points to lead the Buccaneers. Rick Curry was the second-leading scorer for Blinn with 16 points while Revey Norton and Jalan McCloud each tossed in 15 points.
Ja’Cardo Hawkins scored 14 points for the Buccaneers while Trey Edwards rounded out those that scored in double figures with 11 points.
The offense was working well for the Buccaneers as they compiled an early 20-point lead in the second half but it was the defense that left a sour taste in head coach Scott Schumacher’s mouth. Texas Southern University Club was able to hit a slew of 3-pointers to keep the game fairly close although Blinn still lead 43-29 at the half.
“We just have to get better defensively overall,” Schumacher said. “It just comes down to effort on defense.”
The Buccaneers did get better in their free throw shooting, which was a big reason for their loss to Weatherford College earlier in the week. Blinn College made 19-of-25 from the free throw line to help secure the win and improve their record to 4-1 in the preseason.
Blinn will next host Victoria College on Nov. 18 for a game starting at 7:30 p.m. The Buccaneers have already beaten Victoria earlier in the month on its home court 93-68.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 29 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
