The Blinn College women’s soccer powered its way to its first victory of the season, routing Ronin Soccer Club 13-0 on Sunday at Rankin Field inside Hohlt Park in Brenham, Texas.

The double-digit win included 37 shots and 29 shots on goal by the Buccaneers, who improved to 1-1.

Second-year head coach Alexandria Jackson was able to utilize the depth of her bench during the matchup, and said it was good to see her team break into the win column following a tough one-goal loss to Dallas College Brookhaven in its season opener on Aug. 18.

“I was glad our team could bounce back after a tough loss on Friday,” Jackson said. “It is difficult to beat us at home, and the players take pride in that. We saw a lot of our players get good minutes today and they performed well on both sides of the ball.”

Nine different players scored at least one goal for Blinn, led by a three-goal effort for sophomore forward Paola Brizuela Razo in her Buccaneer debut. Brizuela Razo also had an assist. Sophomore forward Emeyda Cruz and freshman forward MaKayla Police had two goals apiece.

Blinn freshman midfielder Eleanor Sargeant collected an assist from sophomore midfielder Brianna Hoffman in the fifth minute and opened the scoring with a long kick that sailed over the outstretched hand of the Ronin SC goalkeeper. Brizuela Razo scored in the 15th minute on a give from freshman forward Alexandra Walker; sophomore midfielder Rileigh Toner found the net in the 23rd minute on an assist from sophomore defender Bailey Buckner; Police scored with help from Brizuela Razo in the 25th minute; freshman forward Aliyah Palmer turned a dish from freshman midfielder Annika Murdoch into a score in the 31st minute, and Police scored her second goal of the first half on a Palmer assist in the 35th minute. The Bucs took a 6-0 lead into the intermission.

Brizuela Razo scored the first goal of the second half and capped the offense with her third tally late in the match.

Cruz scored back-to-back goals for the Bucs in the second half, and sophomore forward Haylee McBride, freshman forward Haley Piatak, and freshman forward Marissa Aparicio also scored in the second half.

The Buccaneers resume play with a home tilt against Dallas College North Lake at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25, at Rankin Field.
