BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College men’s basketball has proven it plays best when running playing a fast-paced brand of offense and that helped to beat Lone Star College Cy-Fair 118-92 Wednesday night inside the P.E. Building.
“I thought that it was a good game for us because we had to play through some adversity,” said Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher.
The only time Cy-Fair would get momentum is when Blinn would slow down and turn the ball over. The Buccaneers improved to 5-0 behind the play of Victor Dukes in the first half with all 14 of his points coming in the first 20 minutes.
“I just try and do all the dirty work and get rebounds and score,” Dukes said after the game. “I am starting to get more comfortable out on the court.”
Morris Dunnigan was able to lead Blinn with 28 points while Corey Henderson was right behind with 22. John Dewey totaled 13, Jaequon Brown had 11 points and LaKendric Hyson also reached double digits with 10 points.
It took a little while for Blinn to cushion a lead but Dukes was able to help grab momentum with a bucket in the post to give Blinn a 35-24 lead with 6:50 left in the half. Dunnigan also had a solid first half with 16 points as the Buccaneers stayed ahead and led 54-42 at the half.
In the second half, the Blinn offense was moving fast and creating easy buckets. Henderson and Dunnigan put on an offensive show with 13 and 12 points respectively. The lead ballooned for Blinn with the Buccaneers playing at a fast pace and Cy-Fair never got the game within reach.
Donzell Henton came on late for Blinn to help close out the game with eight points off the bench.
Blinn will host Victoria College Saturday, Nov. 14 at 4 p.m. The Region XIV Tournament champion Blinn College volleyball team was honored before the tip by Schumacher and the Blinn College Alumni & Friends Association.
