CORSICANA, Texas — The Blinn College women’s soccer team fell to No. 12 Navarro College, 5-1, in the Region XIV semifinals at Tiger Stadium Wednesday.

With the loss, the Buccaneers were eliminated from the postseason tournament and end the season with a 6-3 overall record.

“I am very proud of this team, and how they fought for the whole 90 minutes and did everything that was expected of them,” head coach Michael McBride said. “We promised the sophomores that we would build on the foundation that they laid and make them proud when they look back. They raised the bar for the players coming after them.”

Mercy Breazeale led the offense with one goal, while Madison Kanelos recorded one assist. Hope Hillhouse led the defense with 12 saves.

“This season was a historical season for the program,” assistant coach Alexandria Jackson said. “We are forever grateful to our sophomores who have been with us the first two seasons that our staff has been here. They have helped build a foundation of a very new program that we will build on for years to come.”

Navarro scored in the 36th and 39th minutes to lead 2-0 at halftime. Navarro extended its lead to 4-0 in the second half after scoring in the 63rd and 66th minutes. Breazeale scored Blinn’s only goal in the 70th minute off a corner kick from Kanelos for the Buccaneers to trail 4-1. Navarro scored its final goal in the 78th minute to lead 5-1 for good.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
