PARIS, Texas — The Blinn College women’s soccer team defeated Paris Junior College, 2-0, on the road Tuesday.
With the win, the Buccaneers improve to 5-2 overall for a program-best start. Blinn is now 3-2 in conference play.
“I was very pleased with the performance to go away and keep another clean sheet,” head coach Michael McBride said. “Jocelynn Lausell does a great job at the back, and when we move her she scores goals at the other end as well. She is a great utility player for us and she allows us to have her impact the game, so I pleased for her as well.”
Lausell led Blinn’s offense by scoring two goals on two shots. Morgan Zachos recorded two shots and one assist, while Karson Funderburk recorded a team-high three shots.
Hope Hillhouse recorded her fourth shutout of the season with five saves.
“Obviously it is always a good day when you get another win,” assistant coach Alexandria Jackson said. “Hope had another good game. I believe it is a sign of a good team when things get hard and you can get a goal from anyone on the field and that is what Jocelynn did for us today.”
After a scoreless first half, Zachos crossed it to Lausell for her to score Blinn’s first goal in the 70th minute.
In the 80th minute, Lausell scored her second goal of the game for Blinn to pull ahead 2-0.
Next, Blinn will continue conference play against Northeast Texas Community College on Friday, April 30, at 2 p.m. on the road.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
