The Blinn College volleyball team added Tyler Junior College (TJC) to the growing list of ranked foes they have defeated on Saturday, topping the eighth-ranked Apaches 3-1 in the TJC Invitational tournament.
The third-ranked Buccaneers lost the first set 24-26 but controlled the next three games, winning 25-13, 25-14, 25-15. Blinn is now 25-1 and has won 24 straight matches, including wins in the tournament Friday over 11th-ranked Indian Hills Community College and 12th-ranked Missouri State University-West Plains.
“The girls played great today,” Blinn head coach Terry Gamble said of the win over Tyler. “I’m extremely proud of them.”
Blinn had five players with double-digit kills – Chard’e Van Zandt with 15, Guilia Hortelan with 13, Jayde Shelton with 12, Reagan Casey with 11, and Ashley Taylor with 10.
Lina Ellila handed out 56 assists in the match. Lixai Perez had 12 digs to lead the Bucs.
Blinn’s next 10 games are all conference matches. The Bucs travel to Lee College on Tuesday and host Tyler Junior College on Thursday in the Kruse Center. Both games are at 6 p.m.
