“That was a very, very good win for our guys,” Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher said. “We rose to the occasion in the second half and played good defense.”
Blinn (11-10 overall, 4-6 Region XIV) trailed 41-33 at halftime but fought all the way back before Seals put the Bucs ahead for good with his jumper. Lamar (12-8, 5-5) had one last chance for a victory with 12 seconds to go, but the Blinn defense rejected the hosts to seal the win.
“Lamar came down and got a shot, but our guys had a great defensive stance,” Schumacher explained. “We really covered up, rotated well, and busted things up to stop that offensive possession.”
Sophomore guard Calvin Carpenter paced the Bucs with 17 points, and Seals finished with 14. Freshman center Alex Tsynkevich added 12 points and eight rebounds, and freshman guard Damian Watson added a team-best nine rebounds.
Blinn resumes its season against Lee College at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Kruse Center in Brenham. Preceding the men’s game will be a 2 p.m. tilt between the Blinn women’s team and No. 4 Trinity Valley Community College.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
