The victory pushed the Buccaneers to 16-1 overall and 4-1 in region play, while Angelina fell to 12-5 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

“It was a very good road win against a very talented Angelina team,” Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “I was very proud of our effort tonight.”

Freshman guard Hannah Humphrey led the Buccaneers with 21 points. Sophomore wing Deja Adrian followed with 14 and freshman guards Allana Thompson and Telisha Brown registered 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The Buccaneers led 22-18 after the first period, 45-36 at halftime, and 67-58 heading into the fourth quarter.

Jenkins said he was especially pleased with the way the Buccaneers bounced back from their first loss of the season, which came via a 69-64 region road loss to Kilgore on Jan. 12. Following that setback, Blinn dropped from its No. 17 ranking in the NJCAA Division I top-25 poll to unranked but received votes in Monday’s latest rankings.

“I think this team, whether it’s in the middle of the game or game-to-game, they’re pretty resilient based on what I’ve seen through 17 games,” Jenkins added. “They were down after the loss to Kilgore, but they came back and practiced hard, and I think this team can bounce back from any loss. There’s something about their competitiveness and resilience.”

The Buccaneers play host to fourth-ranked Trinity Valley Community College (16-2, 6-0 Region XIV) in a key conference tilt at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kruse Center in Brenham. The Blinn men’s team will follow with a Region XIV tilt against Lee College at 4 p.m.

The Blinn women’s team also announced that its game against Paris Junior College on Monday, Jan. 31, has been moved up to 4 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
