The Blinn College women’s volleyball team won its fifth straight match Thursday, taking down conference foe Tyler Junior College on the road.
Blinn (6-1 on the season, 1-0 in conference) won 3-1, taking the first game 25-17 and the second 26-24. Tyler won the third game 25-20, but the Bucs stormed back in the fourth game with a decisive 25-15 win.
Jayde Shelton led Blinn with 18 kills, with Reagan Casey adding nine and Chard’e Van Zandt eight. Casey had a strong all-around game, adding seven block assists and two aces.
Shelton and Guilia Hortelan each had five block assists, with Hortelan adding two solo blocks.
Lixai Valez led Blinn with 14 digs. Hortelan added 12 digs and two aces. Setter Savannah Sebek led the Bucs with 32 assists.
“I’m really happy with the win, playing on the road against a really good team,” coach Terry Gamble said. “We had some mental lapses that we’ve got to get better at, but I’m proud of how hard the girls played.”
Blinn will host the Kruse Kickoff Classic on Friday and Saturday in the Kruse Center on the Brenham Campus. The Bucs will take on New Mexico Junior College at noon Friday and Clarendon College at 4:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Blinn will play Western Texas College at noon and Temple Junior College at 4:30 p.m.
The Bucs return to conference action Tuesday, hosting Victoria College at 6 p.m. in the Kruse Center.
