The Blinn College Rocket League esports team finished its season as one of the top eight teams in the nation Tuesday after falling to the University of Kansas 3-0 in a National Association of College Esports (NACE) quarterfinals matchup.
Blinn ends the season with a 10-2 record. Team members are Zach Matthews (Conroe), Jack Barry (Houston), Jason Sansom (Friendswood), and Kyle Jones (Gilmer).
The Blinn Valorant team previously ended its season in the quarterfinals as well, giving Blinn two top-eight national programs. Blinn’s Valorant and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate teams each qualified for the first round of the NACE national tournament.
This is the inaugural season for Blinn’s esports program.
“We’re happy with our success overall and look forward to even more in the future,” coach Aaron Kapiko said. “As a first-year program, this has been a learning experience and I think the program will only get stronger.”
