Blinn had a two-day total of 560 at the tournament, held Monday and Tuesday at the Pine Springs Golf Club in Tyler. The Buccaneers shot 286 in the first round for a two-stroke lead over the University of Houston-Victoria and widened that with a blistering 274 on Tuesday. The University of Houston-Victoria finished second at 573.
Blinn’s Cameron Gray, a sophomore from Scotland, tied for top medalist at 138 (six strokes under par) with rounds of 72 and 66. Gray’s 66 was the lowest round by any player at the tournament.
Cameron Hubbard of Blinn had rounds of 67 and 72, tying for third at 139. The Bucs’ Carson Wray shot 142 (rounds of 72 and 70) to finish fifth. Kannin Mikulik and Ty Thomas of Blinn tied for seventh at 144. Other scores for Blinn were Brock Schobel and Van Miller, 146; Nick Hughes, 151; Cole McClellan, 155; and Greg Maskill, 157.
“It was a great day for the players today,” head coach Dave Johnson said. “We had all five guys at either par or under par. That’s a hard thing to do in team golf – all five guys playing well at one time.”
Blinn will play in the University of Houston-Victoria Fall Classic on Oct. 17-19 at The Club at Colony Creek.
