The Blinn College men’s soccer team concluded Region XIV play with a bang Friday, picking up a 3-0 road shutout of Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, Texas.
With one non-region tilt remaining ahead of the Gulf South District Tournament, the Buccaneers improved to 10-6-3 overall and 7-5 in Region XIV. Blinn reached the 10-win threshold for a fourth consecutive season.
“The men earned their clean sheet today with a solid defensive display,” Bucs head coach said. “This was a good win on the road and a great way to close out regular-season play in the region.”
With the victory, the Bucs solidified themselves as the third seed in the Region XIV South division and will face Louisiana State University-Eunice – the second seed out of the North – in the first round of the district tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 30, in Eunice, La.
Blinn’s latest triumph was the product of stout defense and a three-head offensive attack.
The Jaguars were limited to just four shots by the Bucs defense, and their only shot on goal was saved by goalkeeper Connor Vela. Blinn’s freshman netminder earned his ninth win of the season.
Blinn got all of the offense it needed in the 18th minute when freshman forward Ethan Lindo took an assist from Nawfal Hadj-Hamou and Gabriel Ordonez and deposited it for a 1-0 edge.
In the 24th minute, sophomore forward Diego Ramos made it 2-0 on an assist from Devon Arnold and Lindo.
Freshman midfielder Joaquin Rosales closed out the scoring in the 86th minute when he found the net on a penalty kick.
The Bucs finished with 20 shots, including 10 on goal and had 10 corner kicks to Jacksonville’s two.
Blinn’s regular season will come to a close with a match against the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
