The Blinn College women’s soccer team closed out the regular season with an impressive 2-0 Region XIV road win over Jacksonville College on Friday in Jacksonville, Texas.
The victory pushed the Buccaneers to 7-6-1 overall and 6-5 in the region standings. Blinn finished the regular season second in the Region XIV South division and earned a first-round home tilt in the Region XIV Tournament. The Bucs are awaiting final results to play out in the North division to determine its opponent.
“I’m ecstatic to end the regular season with a win that solidified our second-place finish in the South, which grants us home-field advantage in the playoffs,” Blinn head coach said. “We spoke about champions doing the right things all the time regardless of who they play, and they did just that. Now we rest and focus on the playoffs.”
Blinn’s offense was provided by sophomore forward MaKayla Police and freshman midfielder Marguerite Funk.
After a scoreless first half, Police made it 1-0 in the 47th minute while Funk added an insurance tally in the 51st. Sophomore forward Alyssa Wright initiated both goals to finish with two assists.
Blinn’s strong defensive performance helped the Bucs earn a 14-1 shot advantage, and sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Clark tallied one save to preserve the shutout. Clark has seven victories in goal this season.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
