The victory raised the Buccaneers’ overall record to 9-4-2, and bumped their conference mark to 5-3-1.
“The lads’ work rate was first class today,” Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. “It was a disciplined performance and a great result.”
Both of the Bucs’ goals came in the first half.
Sophomore forward Anderson Micolta opened the scoring with an assist from sophomore midfielder Felix Mesquita in the 31st minute. Sophomore forward Kamille Kum netted a feed from sophomore defender Crispin Tshimanga in the 41st.
Mesquita’s assist gave him 11 on the season, good for third in the nation while also setting a Blinn program record. Mesquita now has 17 career assists. As a team, the Buccaneers lead NJCAA Division I in assists this season with 65.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Pena made three saves to earn his eighth victory of the year while recording his 10th career shutout.
The Bucs outshot Northeast Texas 21-6, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Blinn hits the road to face region foe and fifth-ranked Angelina College at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, in Lufkin, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
