The Columbus Volunteer Fire Department and Fire Marshal’s Office posted scenes from a massive grassfire that has taken them over two days to try to get contained. The Dry Rice Fire has consumed over 326 acres and is currently being reported as 95% contained according to Texas A&M Forest Service Incident Viewer. Austin County sent a task force to assist with the fire while making sure to keep main resources within the county should a fire break out here. This dry season has seen an uptick in fires as conditions continue to be dry and hot; perfect for fires. Please be sure and check with your local fire departments as bottled water being made available to onsite workers has been one of the biggest needs.
